March 15, 2010 10:15 EDTKNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A section of the East Tennessee highway known as The Dragon is shut down by a rock slide.
WBIR-TV in Knoxville reports U.S. 129 below the Smoky Mountains is closed in both directions about two miles south of Chilhowee Dam.
Rocks slid onto the road Sunday morning and a posting on the TDOT SmartWay Web site indicates it could be the weekend before the road is cleared.
The station quoted tourist Jonathan Ball from Great Britain, who was taking the road as a detour around a major rock slide on U.S. 64 in the Ocoee River Gorge.
Ball LOLed when he said, "Your country is falling apart."

* TransportationKNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Work to clear a rockslide that closed U.S.-129/SR-115 is expected to begin early April. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will let an emergency contract to clear the slide on Monday, March 29. TDOT qualified two specialty contractors, Pacific Blasting Demolition Ltd. and Phillips & Jordan, Inc., to bid on the project. Both contractors offer specialized experience in rockslide clearance and stabilization that is needed to repair the substantial and complex slide on U.S.-129/SR-115.
The emergency contract is expected to be awarded to one of the two specialty contractors on Monday, March 29 with work expected to begin no later than April 5. This will allow contractors time to transport specialized equipment to the site of the slide in Blount County.
TDOT’s contract has a completion date of July 31, 2010.
Meanwhile, detours remain in place while the stretch of road known as the Dragon is closed from the slide area to the North Carolina state line. From Deals Gap Res today: Mon Apr12th the dragon will be open at 8 am. It is official, all but the lawyer to say ok. TDOT will build a fence at the state line with a gate. They will open the Dragon for use from 8am until 8pm from the NC side only. There is still no way to get past the slide so you will have to turn around after the Dragon and return. Two THP will patrol, Graham county EMS will be the medical support.

Il semblerait au dernière info que la loupe pour cades cove c'est réouvert, la 40 réouvert.
Nouvelle éboulit sur little river road. Blueridge ouvert sauf au sud d'Asheville prêt du Mt-Pisgah y a une section de fermé indéfiniment. Cependant lorsque qu'une partie de la Blueridge est fermé y a des routes de contournement possible. Ce qui n'est pas le cas de la 129. 0041.gif

Due to heavy rains, engineers have determined that a high risk of slides exists in the area, necessitating this emergency closure. The closure will be in place until early July.
For southbound traffic from the Asheville area, take NC Route 191, NC Route 280, and US Route 276 to the Parkway. For northbound traffic near the Mt. Pisgah area, take US Route 276, NC Route 280, and NC Route 191 to the Parkway.
